Practical Nursing Exit Option

The Practical Nursing (PN) Program Option includes one (1) semester of prerequisites and three (3) semesters of nursing course work. The curriculum consists of nursing courses included in the first year of the ADN (Associate Degree Nursing) curriculum, as well as, one (1) semester of PNV courses.
Successful completion of the fifty-eight (58) semester hours for the Practical Nursing Option leads to a MGCCC diploma. Graduates are then eligible to apply for LPN licensure through the Mississippi Board of Nursing and the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN).

Practical Nursing Exit Option
Admission Requirements, Selection Process, Prerequisites to Beginning the Nursing Program, and Progression Information for the ADN program are also applicable to students seeking entrance into the Practical Nursing Exit Option (See pages 74 – 76).
The Practical Nursing Exit Option continues the preparation for students to enter the nursing career ladder as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The Practical Nursing Exit Option is accredited by the Mississippi Department of Education and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). Students, who successfully complete the first two semesters of the nursing program at any MGCCC campus location, may choose to declare the PN Exit option and transfer to the George County Center to complete the Practical Nursing Exit Option. Admission Steps for the Practical Nursing Exit Option:
- Successfully meet the Nursing Admission Requirements (See page 74).
- Ranked and Selected for Admission (See Selection Process-page 74).
- Successful completion of prerequisites and Freshman Year of Nursing (ADN) Curriculum (See page 77)
- Completion of Practical Nursing Exit Option Declaration form by mid-term of the 2nd semester.
