Dental Radiology

NON-CREDIT PROGRAM

This one (1) day, non-credit healthcare training prepares the dental assistant applicant currently certified by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) and/or who is a graduate to a dental assisting program accredited by the American Dental Association (ADA) to apply for a Mississippi radiology permit.  Upon successful completion of the program and obtaining the permit, the graduate is eligible to pursue additional opportunities in the dental field related to radiologic procedures.

Course Description: This course prepares those individuals who are currently working in the dental field to become registered dental radiographers, including learning basic principles of X-ray generation, image formation, biological effects of radiation, radiation protection, infection control, film processing and film mounting, intra-oral, extra-oral and panoramic radiographic technique, patient management and special problems. Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to apply for radiology permits from the Mississippi State Board of Dental Examiners. Cost: $595 paid at Business Office. Application fee for the dental permit is not included in course fee. (The MGCCC Non-Credit Refund Policy is on the Registration form).

Steps for admission into the program are listed below:

I.  Dental Radiology:

a)  Complete the Non-Credit Registration form listing Dental Radiology as the course name and include a listed course date of interest (can be found on the MGCCC Community Education webpage or at the campus location).

b)  Obtain evidence of current or past employment in a dental clinic or office

Note: Students must be able to show proof of current or past employment in a dental facility.  This training requires prior knowledge/credentials related to dental practice.

c)  Email or fax the Non-credit Registration form and the proof of current or past dental practice to the Nursing Skills Lab, Simulation and Continuing Education Manager located at the campus offering the course (Campus, Manager’s Name, fax and email address listed below).

Note: You will be contacted via email regarding acceptance of documents for program enrollment. Please include a valid email address on Non-Credit Registration form.

d)  Enrollment into the Dental Radiology program will be based on a first come first serve condition following submission of the:

a.  Non-credit Registration form
b.  Submission of proof of current or past dental practice
c.  Full course payment which is made at the MGCCC campus business office.

Note: Win Job Center letters are not offered for the Phlebotomy course.

e)  Following completion of registration and course payment, a letter of acceptance will be emailed to the applicant by the Nursing Skills Lab, Simulation and Continuing Education Manager (a valid personal email address must be made available on the registration form).

II.  Course Information

a)  Learning Environment – Four hours of theory will take place in a MGCCC classroom followed by four hours of dental lab at a nearby dental office.

b)  Lab Release of Liability Form - All students accepted into a MGCCC Dental Radiology course must sign and submit a copy of the Lab Release of Liability Form provided by the Instructor on the first day of class.

c)  Objectives – After successfully meeting course objectives necessary to obtain the dental radiology certificate, you will be required to submit the online application for the Mississippi Radiology Permit.

Note: The $175 fee paid at the business office does not include the application fee for the dental permit

Note: MGCCC reserves the right to substitute instructors, change class schedules, and cancel programs due to insufficient enrollment or unforeseen circumstances.
