IV Therapy Recertification – LPN Expanded Role

NON-CREDIT PROGRAM

This one (1) day non-credit healthcare recertification training provides the Mississippi Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certified in IV therapy with ten (10) continuing education credit hours required to continue utilization of the skillset necessary to perform procedures related to the expanded scope of intravenous therapy in a licensed hospital, licensed skilled nursing facility and a certified end-stage renal dialysis unit. This non-credit program aligns with the state Board of Nursing curriculum which sets forth very specific rules of what needs to be done to achieve the goal of recertification. Upon completion of the ten (10) units the LPN will test his/her knowledge with an exam.

Course Description: This one (1) day course is designed for the Mississippi LPN currently certified in IV therapy and has a desire to recertify in the Expanded Role of IV Therapy. The course consists of ten (10) units with each unit reviewing and refreshing knowledge and current principles meeting state requirements for IV recertification. Upon completion of the ten (10) units, the LPN student will test his/her knowledge with an exam.  This course is offered annually in the spring semester and during the fall semester of odd years. Cost: $250 (includes modules)             (The MGCCC Non-Credit Refund Policy is on the Registration form).

Steps for admission into the program are listed below:

I.  IV THERAPY Recertification Application Process:

a)  Complete the Non-Credit Registration form listing IV Therapy Recertification as the course name and include a listed course date of interest (can be found on the MGCCC Community Education webpage or at the campus location).

b)  Obtain a copy of your LPN Mississippi License

Note: Applicants must hold a current, valid, unencumbered license as a LPN in Mississippi, including the appropriate IV therapy expanded role issue and expiration dates.

c)  The Nursing Skills Lab, Simulation and Continuing Education Manager will review your documents and contact you via email with information regarding your application (a valid personal email address must be made available on the registration form).

d)  Following registration and validation of the LPN status, the student will be enrolled into the IV Therapy Recertification training course.  Enrollment will be based on a first come first serve condition following submission of the:

1.  Non-credit Registration form

2.  LPN Mississippi License with validation of the IV therapy expanded role date of issue and expiration.  

3.  Full course payment which is made at the MGCCC campus business office.

Note: Win Job Center letters are not applicable for the IV Therapy Recertification Training.

e)  Following completion of registration and course payment, a letter of acceptance will be emailed to the applicant by the Nursing Skills Lab, Simulation and Continuing Education Manager (a valid personal email address must be made available on the registration form).

f)  Lab Release of Liability Form - All students accepted into a MGCCC IV THERAPY training must sign and submit a copy of the Lab Release of Liability Form provided by the Instructor on class day.

II. Additional Requirements:

  • Stethoscope with bell and diaphragm – Approximately $25 at campus book store.
  • Watch with a second hand – Approximately $20 from a local dollar store.
  • Modules - Will be provided by Instructor

 

 

Note: MGCCC reserves the right to substitute instructors, change class schedules, and cancel programs due to insufficient enrollment or unforeseen circumstances.
