Commercial Truck Driving

The goal of the Commercial Driving License program is to provide the education and training needed to become a professional truck driver. Based on the Mississippi Curriculum Framework for Postsecondary Commercial Truck Driving, the program includes an introduction, general knowledge, air brakes and combination, maintenance of log books, pre-trip inspection, safety measures, backing skills, over the road driving, and a Mississippi CDL Examination review.

Program Requirements:

A certificate of completion in Commercial Truck Driving will be awarded at the culmination of a minimum of 12 semester hours (320 clock hours) of satisfactory study.

Special admission requirements for this program are:

  1. Must be 18 years of age.
  2. Must hold a valid Mississippi driver’s license and have received no more than 3 speeding tickets within the last 3 years.
  3. Must be able to pass a DOT physical and drug screen from an approved college provider.
  4. Must complete Gulf Coast Work Ready prerequisite and receive a Silver on the National Career Ready Credential.
  5. Must have Mississippi DOT Commercial Driver’s Permit.

The student must obtain a Mississippi Commercial Driver’s License and pass the Mississippi DOT Commercial Driver Written Examination in order to successfully complete the course.
