Web Development Technology is a two-year program that offers training in web design and development; e-commerce strategies; content management systems; graphic design; programming and markup languages; and database administration and data driven content. The program is offered 100% online, giving students the flexibility of completing classwork according to their own schedule.
Opportunities for students with expertise in web development include government agencies, corporations, advertising agencies, entrepreneurship, and remote employment. Upon completion of this program students have the option to continue building on their education or to become employed in job roles such as web developer, designer, software engineer, programmer, user-interface designer, mobile media designer, etc.
Additionally, many web developers serve as independent contractors, making this a perfect career for individuals who want to run their own business or stay at home parents needing supplemental income.
WDT students will take the CIW Site Development Associate certification exam during the capstone course, WDT 2613 Web Project Management. Certified Internet Web Professional (CIW) certifications verify that individuals have the job skills necessary to master a technology-driven world. CIW is accepted and endorsed by academic institutions, governments, and businesses worldwide. Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is a CIW Authorized Academic Partner (AAP), which offers CIW exam prep materials and onsite certification exam administration.
This curriculum leads to an Associate of Applied Science degree and is preparatory for employment upon graduation from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Where continued education at a senior college or university is desired, a conference should be scheduled with a program advisor to discuss articulation agreements that allow transfer of college credits into four-year programs.
