The Cosmetology Program is a one-year program of study designed to lead to a diploma. The instructional program provides training in the theory, skills, and salon ethics that are required to become a licensed cosmetologist. Students practice techniques in a supervised salon setting. The Curriculum is designed to comply with the standards of the Mississippi State Board of Cosmetology, with the requirement of 1500 clock hours of instruction for students. Upon satisfactory completion of the program of study, a student will be eligible to request an examination by the Mississippi State Board of Cosmetology to become a licensed Cosmetologist in the state of Mississippi. Selection for admission into the cosmetology program is based on the date of cosmetology application and slot availability. Applicants must provide two official high school or high school equivalency transcripts.
This program leads to an Associate of Applied Science of Occupational Education Degree and is preparatory for employment upon graduation from MGCCC. Where a transfer to 4-year college or university is desired, a conference should be scheduled with a MGCCC advisor.
