Phlebotomy
NON-CREDIT PROGRAM
This non-credit healthcare program prepares applicants to sit for certification through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) which is accredited through the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate is eligible for employment opportunities with various healthcare agencies. The phlebotomist’s primary function is to assist the healthcare team in accurate, safe, reliable collection and transportation of specimens for clinical laboratory testing.
Course Description: This intensive 100-hour course of study is designed to prepare students for immediate employment as phlebotomists in the hospital or clinical setting. Students will complete a minimum of 40 hours of theory on campus, 60 hours of clinical training at multiple facilities, and 60 successful unaided blood collections including venipuncture and skin punctures.
Cost: $550 paid at any MGCCC Business Office (Testing fees for the NCCT certification are NOT included in course fee.)

Steps for admission into the program:
I. Phlebotomy Application Process:
a) Complete the MGCCC Registration Form for Non-Credit Healthcare Courses listing Phlebotomy as the course name and include a listed course date of interest (can be found on the website under Pathways/Health Sciences/Non-Credit courses or at any campus location).
b) Obtain a copy of your high school or high school equivalence (HSE) diploma.
Exception: current High School students in the Spring Semester of the senior year may be admitted at the recommendation of the local high school that the student is on the final path to graduation and has taken background courses to prepare the student for the rigorous demands of the Phlebotomy curriculum.
c) Upon receipt of the Non-credit registration form and high school or HSE diploma, you will be notified by email to take the online CRC Practice exam. An ACT score of 18 or greater can be accepted in lieu of the CRC exam. You will be provided with a username and password to log on to the practice test. You must score a 3 or higher on each section (Graphic Literacy, Workplace Documents, and Applied Math) to be eligible to take the proctored CRC exam.
d) Following registration and successfully passing the proctored CRC exam with a score of 3 or higher in each section, the student will be enrolled into a phlebotomy course.
e) Once you receive an email confirming registration with the date, time and location, you can pay the $550 course fee at any MGCCC campus business office.
Note: Students are accepted conditionally until all required pre-clinical documents are received by the end of the third week of class and approved for clinical/lab attendance.
f) Enrollment will be based on a first come first serve condition following submission of the:
- Non-credit Registration form
- High school or HSE diploma
- CRC proctored score with at least a score of 3 in each section or ACT score of 18 or greater
- Full course payment, which is made at the MGCCC campus business office.
****Criminal Background Check – DUE on FIRST day of class. All students accepted into a MGCCC Phlebotomy course must obtain a criminal background check from a MGCCC Campus Police Office. The $65 criminal background check payment is not included in the Phlebotomy program cost. The payment is made at the campus business office with the receipt presented at the Campus Police Office in order for testing to take place.

Note: Disqualifying background check results must be reviewed by the Health Sciences Administrative Team to determine the student’s continuous enrollment and final acceptance into the program. Administrative approval will be based upon “MS Code 43-11-13” related to clinical attendance. If not approved, the student forfeits the course fee and the right to continue in the course.
Note: MGCCC reserves the right to substitute instructors, change class schedules, and cancel programs due to insufficient enrollment or unforeseen circumstances.
